Are there any assessment test fees or long-term contracts required before being tutored? (top)
No. Expensive assessment tests, often costing several hundred dollars, are often required in a Learning Center environment, but they are never a prerequisite for a student to be tutored by a Rise and Shine tutor.
How is Rise and Shine Tutoring, LLC different from a Learning Center?(top)
1. Our qualified tutors travel to your home. This is at your convenience, according to your schedule. You don’t have to interrupt your day to drive to yet another activity!
2. Careful attention is made to match the student’s academic needs to the best tutor, which may not be the case in a franchised Learning Center. Learning Centers also typically place one teacher/tutor with several students, so there is not always individualized attention for the student.
3. Finally, our tutors work from the school’s curriculum, not a pre-determined program that may not relate to what the student is learning in school. Our tutors strive to elevate the student’s academic status in school as quickly as possible.
Does Rise and Shine Tutoring, LLC supply learning materials for tutoring sessions?(top)
At times, our tutors may supply supplemental materials if it complements what the student is learning in school. It is the responsibility of the student to be prepared by bringing school textbooks or other materials to every tutor session.
Does tutoring always take place in my home?(top)
Yes, we come to you at your convenience. We require that a parent or guardian be at home during the tutoring session. For adult learners, we offer the option of tutoring at your local library.
What are your tutor’s qualifications?(top)
Our tutors are certified teachers, college graduates or degree-seeking college students. We personally interview and use great care in the selection of each tutor that we contract through Rise and Shine Tutoring, LLC. We conduct background and reference checks.
What is the waiting time to get a tutor working with a student?(top)
Immediately following the in-home consultation and discussion about the student’s needs, Rise and Shine Tutoring, LLC, will place a tutor with the student. They will carefully consider many factors before selecting the tutor that will best match the student’s academic needs. Our goal is to place a tutor with a student within 48 hours of the in-home consultation. The tutor that is selected will then call you to introduce himself or herself, arrange a tutoring schedule that’s mutually workable and get directions to your home.
Is there a minimum number of sessions for which I have to commit?(top)
No. We do not require long-term contracts. However, we strongly suggest no less that a minimum of four sessions to see lasting results. Also, twice-weekly sessions have the most immediate impact on a student’s success in school.
How long is each tutoring session?(top)
The minimum amount of time for a session is one hour. However, sessions may be longer, depending on the student’s needs, the parent’s request and the tutor’s availability.
What if I have more than one student that needs to be tutored simultaneously?(top)
We always recommend one-on-one tutoring, as we believe this to be most effective for students. However, we will consider tutoring two or more students together under certain circumstances. Please ask about the most cost-effective way to meet the student’s needs when more than one student is involved.
Do your tutors work with students that have learning disabilities and special needs?(top)
Many of our tutors have teaching degrees with special education certifications. We have tutors that have experience working with students certified with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Austism Spectrum Disorder and other disability areas.
Do you tutor college students?(top)
Yes. We have tutors that are very competent to tutor college level courses. Request for college level tutoring is increasing and we have tutors to meet that need.
Do you provide college entrance test preparation (ACT and SAT)?(top)
Yes. We can help students prepare for both the ACT and SAT exams. We highly recommend that you contact us at least 8 weeks prior to the exam so that the tutor will have enough time to prepare the student. Our experience has shown that two or more sessions per week are the most effective with this type of tutoring. Rates for test prep are the same as our hourly rates for general tutoring.
